Birth Walkthrough and Guide
Birth is a cozy and slightly macabre puzzle game with abstract graphics. Combining art, narrative, and light puzzle-solving, the game explores themes of loneliness. You move to a new city. The crowded city makes you feel lonely, and you decide to build your companion to help you overcome feelings of forlornness. The game’s hand-drawn, minimalist puzzles remind me of Rusty Lake games. The graphics are soft and hand-drawn with a muted color palette, creating a cozy but slightly eerie atmosphere.

Before you begin solving puzzles in Birth, you will be introduced to interacting with items in a short tutorial. Start by putting the cassette in the cassette player. Click on the cassette, hold the left mouse button, drag it toward its silhouette, and drop it. The cassette will slide into the player. Click the play button.
Pour the tea/coffee into the cup. Put the bread slice in the toaster.
The next slide is all about customizing your character. You can choose different head shapes, add accessories such as crowns and earrings, select outfit colors, etc. These options are purely cosmetic and do not affect the puzzles.
Open the diary and drag the symbols onto their matching cutouts on both pages. As you begin placing the symbols, words will magically appear on the pages. As an introvert, the first sentence feels oddly familiar. I avoid crowded places for the same reason.
From the diary entry, it seems the character is lonely, but they have a very unique way of curing their loneliness – building a creature to serve as a friend or a partner. Reminds me of Frankenstein. Feel weird and sad at the same time. Well, that’s what the whole “Birth” game is all about. Solve puzzles to collect parts of the body and then assemble them to create a creature.
In the next slide, put the right vertebra onto their matching cutouts in the spine. Just drag and drop them. They will snap right into their correct places.
Click the arrow on the top-left corner of the screen to go to your room. The backpack in the bottom-left corner shows a list of bones and organs that need to be collected. Solve puzzles in the city to collect them.
The buildings icon in the lower-left corner gives access to a bustling city where you will find all the puzzles.
Quick Access
The Bird (Coin #1)
In the first building, click on the bird above the white door.

Click on the piece of paper held by its beak.
Click on all the colorful splotches on the paper. The last one will drop a coin. Pick it up.

Go back to the city. The crowded city has buildings stacked next to each other. Click on each building to start a new chapter.
Apothecary
Pay attention to the thought bubble above the creature—a jar filled with liquid and pebbles. There’s a set of glass jars of different shapes and sizes on the right side. Click on them and you will see the same jar filled with liquid and a glass jar filled with pebbles on the extreme right side of the screen. There are also cutouts of jars of different shapes. Find all these three glass jars.
#1: Drag all the eyeballs upwards within the five notches. When you do this, five figures appear on the left frame. The last figure holds a glass jar. Click to collect the first jar.
#2: When you pull the pin, pebbles should fall into the second hole from the left to directly drop into the empty glass jar. Just arrange the arrows in the pyramid in this way to direct the flow of pebbles into the second hole. Once the jar is filled with pebbles, collect it.
#3 A jar containing pebbles is hiding right behind multiple glass jars filled with liquid. Simply click and drag each jar to discard all glass jars until you discover the one filled with pebbles. Collect the glass jar.
#4: From the inventory at the bottom of the screen, drag and drop all glass jars onto their matching cutouts.
Lift a glass jar and pour its contents into the big jar in the center. Repeat this for the other three glass jars containing pebbles. After dropping all the pebbles in the big jar, secure the lid tightly. Give the glass jar to the creature. Drag the jar from the inventory and drop it in his hand. It will replace the bouquet.
#5: The bouquet will be kept on the table. Click on the bouquet, and discard all the withered flowers and leaves to find the first bone.
Stranger’s Apartment
#1: Click to collect the fish placed in a glass of water. In the same puzzle, click the Polaroid photo to enlarge it. Drag all the golden stars from the bowl to attach them to the strings. Collect the bug from the bowl.
#2: Feed the bug to the bird. Drag and drop the bug to its beak. The bird will lift its wings to reveal a fish. Collect the second fish.
#3: The board game puzzle. Arrange all the multicolored tiles in their correct positions on the honeycomb box. It should look like this, as shown in the below screenshot:

Completing the puzzle will unlock the box, revealing the third fish inside. In the same puzzle, slide open the white drawer to discover the fourth fish.
#4: Drag and drop all four fishes onto their matching cutouts, the dotted ones. Just drop the fish into the aquarium and it will snap right into its matching cutout. Complete this puzzle to unlock the small treasure chest in the aquarium. Collect the first tooth.
Bakery
The bakery is closed, but a cryptic pattern puzzle hangs right on its door. Choose the right combination of three confection symbols to unlock the door.

To find this combination exit the bakery and move to the extreme left, near the gate. Click the girl sitting outside the coffee shop.

Click on all three dots in the diary to reveal the confection symbol combination.

Go back to the bakery and choose the same symbols combo as shown in the diary to unlock the door. Click on each symbol to change it.
#1: Arrange all the cutlery in this way:

The tip of each item should touch the dots. Complete this puzzle to get olive leaves.
#2: Make a mental note of three symbols etched on the girl’s apron tunic.
#3: Move the ladle to the same three symbols one by one to solve the puzzle. When the ladle moves to a symbol, it gets tossed into the empty slot on the left. Complete the puzzle to discover a diamond ring in the middle of the broth. Pick up the ring.
#4: Click on the jars to start the next puzzle. Flip all the switches up to drop pebbles into the glass jar. Each color-coded switch controls the release of matching-colored pebbles into the jar, so make sure all nine types of pebbles are in the jar. When it’s full to the brim, a crescent moon-shaped jewel will fall into it. Pick that jewel.
#5: Open the left cabinet and start the triangle puzzle. Arrange the triangles as shown in the screenshot below, to complete the puzzle:

If all triangular tiles are arranged correctly, they will fall apart, revealing a lime. Collect the lime.
#6: Peel the banana. Keep clicking on the banana repeatedly to cut multiple slices. Each slice has dots embedded in it. Two banana slices with three and five dots respectively are already placed on the slice of bread. Place six more on the empty circles. Pay attention to the dots in each slice. All eight slices have dots numbered 1-8. Arrange the banana slices with 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, and 8 dots in numerical order on the six empty circles. Here’s the screenshot with the complete puzzle:

Click on the slice of bread to make it smaller. There’s a feather hidden underneath it. Collect the feather.
#7: Click to break the egg. Do this repeatedly until is fully broken to reveal a creature hugging a jar tightly. Click on the creature to free the jar from its clutches.
You will now have six items in your inventory, at the bottom of the screen.
#8: Drag and drop all items onto their matching cutouts. Click on the cookie mixture to make a cookie and place it on the tray. Do this until you find a tooth trapped in a cookie. Pick up the tooth.
Art Studio
Enter 4 digits in the electronic combination lock to unlock the art studio. To find the four digits, go back to the city (click the buildings on the lower-left corner of the screen), and click on the phone booth. Remember the coin you snatched from the bird at the top of the white door? From the lower right corner of the screen, drag and drop the coin onto the slot. The 4 digits may be randomly generated. In my game, it was 6459.
Go back to the art studio and enter the digits to unlock it. Inside, you will find an art book, a paintbrush, and a set of paints. I think it’s just a minigame and unrelated to the main puzzles. You can paint your heart out using the brush and color palette.
Coffee Shop
#1: The first puzzle is the creature working on its laptop. Unwrap the lollipop and take the eyeball.
#2: The gumball machine puzzle in Birth can be quite tricky for beginners, but the solution is simple.

Click and hold the dispensing wheel to rotate it. Doing this will release one gumball at a time. Do this until the second eyeball is released. Pick it up from the tray.

#3: Note down the symbol on the thought bubble arising from the creature standing in the corner.
#4: On the chart, find the same thought bubble symbol and note down pictures (spider, crescent moon, acorn, tooth, etc. ) associated with it. In my game, it’s a spider and a tooth.
Go back to #3 and you will find the same pictures (as seen on the chart) lined up horizontally. Click on the frame connected to the symbols. It’s a jigsaw puzzle.
Here’s the solution to the jigsaw puzzle:

I like how there’s a click sound whenever a piece snaps right into its correct position.
After finishing the puzzle go back and click on the pictures that were associated with the symbol shown on the thought bubble. In my game, I had to click on tooth and spider. When you click on the pictures, they materialize and fall from the funnels. Move the cup below the funnels to collect them. They fall very fast, so the items may ricochet off the cup’s surface. You may collect more than one item of the same type.
After collecting the items in the cup, you will get the third eyeball.
#5: The many-eyed creature holds a stick decorated with three eyeballs, each suspended by a string. Attach the three eyeballs from the inventory to the remaining strings, and it will release the bone. Pick it up to add to your collection.
After solving all the puzzles in the coffee shop, the gate opens.

#5: Click on the couple. Arrange all five circles to match the background pattern to get the fifth piece. Click on a circle to rotate it. The pattern on the circle should match the background pattern. The screenshot below shows completed puzzle:

After finishing the puzzle, three flowers will emerge on the girl’s head. Note down the three symbols appearing beside all three flowers.
#6: Move aside all bottles to find six tokens and a jewelry box. Do the symbols on these tokens look familiar? Well, you saw the same symbols on the girl’s head. I hope you have noted those three symbols by now. Drag and drop the tokens with those symbols onto the empty slots on the jewelry box. Here’s the screenshot:

The box opens revealing the fifth item.
Go back to #2 (Laundromat). Click on the middle washing machine to find a unique combination lock that resembles a jigsaw puzzle.
The five items collected so far need to be fit into the correct slots to open the lock. Here’s the completed puzzle:
Open the washing machine to get the bony hand.

#4: Insert the cartridge into the handheld to start a few mini-games. The objective of each mini-game is to put shards inside the circle. Use the handheld’s D-pad to guide the shards into the circle. The shards will float, making it a bit tricky to steer them all toward the circle. However, once a shard is inside, it will stay put and won’t float back out.
After completing the third mini-game, click the downward-pointing arrow and a hexagonal token will drop from the top of the handheld console’s screen. Collect the token.
#5: A second diamond-shaped jewel is hidden behind the glass container. Collect it. We now have two such jewels. We got the first one in #1, typewriter puzzle.
Click on the photo frame and attach the two diamond-shaped jewels to the strings. Pick the second hexagonal token from the creature’s palm. You now have two tokens.
Place both tokens on the empty slots at the base of the large specimen jar and take the rib cage.

The rotating line tilts on the side that has more pebbles. Roughly the same number of pebbles should into each bowl to fill the liquid weighing scales to the brim.
When both weighing scales are filled to the brim, you will obtain the upper part of a centipede.

Click to lift the rabbit’s ears to unlock the pendant. Grab the spider in the pendant.
#4: Drop all the strawberry seeds into the glass jar; this will cause all the glass jars to move aside. Next, click on the middle jar. Open the box that appears on the right side, then click on each item to reveal five hexagons. Each hexagon displays six symbols and rotates when clicked. Arrange the five hexagons to match the symbol pattern shown in the screenshot below:

When you complete this puzzle, you will see the girl on the left holding a flower. Collect it.
#5: Open the third drawer from the top row and collect the needle. The fifth, large drawer has a puzzle. We will solve it later.
